Neruda Communications is a boutique strategic communications consultancy comprising highly experienced specialists who challenge the thought process and in turn, deliver tangible results to clients.

Corporations require high quality, timely counsel on an array of communication challenges. With an
accumulated experience nearing 75 years, we understand this, having worked in all facets of the
communications realm.

The partners have in their own previous capacities, managed communications at the sovereign wealth fund of the Malaysian government, stakeholder relations and crisis communications with MNCs operating in Malaysia and the region, to shaping the financial communications dialogue for Major IPOs and corporates as well as consumer launches.

SREEJIT PILLAI

SENIOR COMMUNICATION COUNSEL

Sreejit is Principal and Founder of Neruda Communications with more than 25 years of experience as a corporate communications specialist. Prior to being an entrepreneur, Sreejit was the Head of Corporate Communications and Corporate Responsibility at Heineken Malaysia. He was primarily responsible for change management communications, corporate sustainability and media relations for both internal and external stakeholders.

Before Heineken, Sreejit worked for Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the strategic investment fund of the Government of Malaysia for nearly 5 years. As Vice President, his role included stakeholder management, annual report development, media and communications initiatives involving Khazanah’s substantial domestic and global investments. He was also extensively engaged in all spheres of the communications work involving Malaysia Airlines at the holding company level when Khazanah initiated its massive corporate restructuring exercise in 2014.

Sreejit has also worked as an external consultant offering public relations counsel to corporations and multinational blue-chip communication agencies. His clients included Ace Jerneh Berhad, Goldis Berhad, IGB Corporation, Guinness Anchor Berhad as well as The Association of Banks Malaysia. He began his career as a journalist at The Star newspaper followed by CNET and Bloomberg TV.

STEVEN YONG

SENIOR COMMUNICATION COUNSEL

Steven Yong is a consultant with close to 30 years of experience in content development, communications and public relations.

Prior to his current role, Steven was a Senior Account Director with Weber Shandwick Thailand, working on the General Motors Thailand/Chevrolet account with a regional remit. His work with GM/Chevrolet included content development across various media including print and online, strategic communications, counselling and planning, communications management, tactical execution and issues/crisis management.

Steven is also accomplished in the areas of crisis communications and issues management. He was a part of the core team tasked with managing issues around General Motors’ bankruptcy for Thailand and other Southeast Asian markets. He also led initiatives in handling GM Thailand’s union workers’ strike and other numerous issues around the Chevrolet brand. Steven has also led numerous media training sessions and workshops for corporations including the Accor Hotels Group, Clariant Chemicals, General Electrics Thailand and General Motors/Chevrolet Thailand. His foray into crisis communications and management started when he was a part of the Malaysian team tasked with executing crisis communications initiatives for SK-II’s counterfeit issues back in the mid-2000s.

Steven started with Weber Shandwick Malaysia in 2006 as Account Supervisor and made Account Manager one year later, prior to joining the Thailand office. In the Malaysian office, he headed the Consumer and Corporate-Technology teams, offering strategic counsel and consultation for brands like Microsoft, Singapore Tourism Board, A1GP, SK-II, Amway, Disney Channel, Colgate-Palmolive, TANGS department store, Pavilion KL and the Curve shopping centre.

He started as a motoring journalist with a Malaysian auto magazine, and progressed to write and subsequently head magazines of other genres including travel, lifestyle, business, consumer technology and IT titles.
